Adam observed the changing landscape with a fascination of an animal for the first time released from the cage. He startled at how different people looked, how beautiful the houses were and how many bizarre vehicles ran across the streets. After hundreds of kilometers, he could see black and white creatures eating the grass from the field, creatures which Gemma had called cows; he saw pigs running with their young, dogs guarding the sheep and cats lying on the walls surrounding the houses. His eyes were glued to the crack between the train door, the only source of light in the bean-filled space with no compartments. He was amazed at petite differences in people's faces, nostrils, hair colors, which made them not pretty or ugly but simply different from what he was used to seeing. He startled at their sizes, at their clothes, at their hairstyles and the shapes of their body. Every few hundred kilometers he was welcomed by a distinguished landscape, a changed design of houses, buildings and monuments, styles and architectures.
And after some time he felt not only a relief but a great joy that all these sights were for him only and that there wasn't only a life of N. or K. to choose from, but the lives of many countries, systems, and ideas. And he could open the door at any moment, take a jump when the train reduced its speed and forget that he was ever born in the wrong place at a wrong time. He considered himself lucky.
